"The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac" is a compilation album released in 2002 to promote the band's upcoming album, Say You Will (2003). The U.S. version was a double album released on October 12, 2002, while the UK version was a single disc. It debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and spent 42 weeks on the chart, achieving gold certification shortly after its release and later reaching 4× Platinum status by September 2018.
The U.S. edition focuses on Fleetwood Mac's successful Californian era (1975 onwards) and includes the B-side "Silver Springs," the unreleased live performance of "Go Insane," and rare remixes of songs like "Rhiannon." Its enhanced section features live performances, interviews, and music videos. The UK version, while lacking enhancements, includes three tracks from the band's earlier blues era.
In October 2009, the U.S. version was re-released in the UK and other territories coinciding with the band's Unleashed tour, featuring a different cover but no enhanced material. This re-release was also successful, reaching No. 6 on the UK charts, and combined sales from both editions achieved 6× Platinum status by December 2018. The album also topped the Australian ARIA Catalogue Chart and reached platinum status in New Zealand within weeks of its re-release.
