Janis Joplin

"In Concert" is a posthumous live double album by Janis Joplin, released in 1972. It is a compilation of live recordings of performances by Joplin and her bands, Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Full Tilt Boogie, from 1968 and 1970. The first record features performances with Big Brother and the Holding Company, recorded at various locations in 1968, including prominent American music festivals such as the Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, and The Grande Ballroom, Detroit. Some of the notable songs from this portion of the album include "Piece of My Heart", "Combination of the Two" and "Ball and Chain". The second record includes performances by Full Tilt Boogie in 1970, before Janis Joplin's death. Unlike Big Brother, Full Tilt Boogie was completely overseen by Joplin and was her exclusive band till her untimely passing. Performances comprised here include spots from "The Festival Express" tour in Canada, with top hits like "Tell Mama", "Half Moon", and "Mercedes Benz". In Concert was well-received and managed to reach Gold status, selling over a million copies. Critics have viewed it as a testament to Joplin's raw, powerful vocals and energetic stage presence as well as a poignant reminder of her early demise.
