Janis Joplin and the Full Tilt Boogie Band

"Pearl" is an album by Janis Joplin, a legendary American rock, soul, and blues singer. Released posthumously on January 11, 1971, it was Joplin's fourth and final album, as she had tragically passed away a few months before the album's release. The album was completed with the help of her backing band, Full Tilt Boogie. "Pearl" was well-received critically and was a commercial success, climbing to the number one spot on the Billboard 200, a feat which Joplin had never achieved in her lifetime. The album features one of her best-known songs, "Me and Bobby McGee," which also ascended to the top of the charts. Other notable songs include "Get It While You Can" and "Mercedes Benz." The album was produced by Paul A. Rothchild, acclaimed for his earlier work with The Doors. The cover art, a black-and-white composition overseen by visual artist Barry Feinstein, features Joplin reclining on a lounge, outfit sparkling, adding a certain glamor to her usual bohemian aesthetic. "Pearl" is regarded as a testament to Joplin's unique voice and extraordinary talent, showcasing her raw and powerful vocals. Despite her untimely death, Joplin's influence on future generations of musicians remains unabated, with this album often cited as one of her best works.
