The album compiles a selection of the band’s singles from their 25-year career up to that point, along with a previously unreleased track, "Martyr," which was recorded during the sessions for Playing the Angel and later released as a single in October 2006.
The album was well-received and achieved significant commercial success, selling over one million copies in Europe alone and earning the IFPI Platinum Europe Award.
