"Microcastle" is the third studio album by Deerhunter, released digitally on August 19, 2008, and in physical format on October 27, 2008. In the U.S., it was released through Kranky, while in Europe, it came out on 4AD. The album was recorded in April 2008 at Rare Book Room Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with Nicolas Vernhes as the producer. It has sold over 50,000 units in the U.S.
Unlike their previous album Cryptograms, Microcastle features minimal use of effects pedals, with only some drum tracks and the vocals on "Agoraphobia" being treated. Bradford Cox, the band's frontman, expressed a preference for shorter, more concise songs, aiming to reduce long-windedness. The album was first performed live at Brooklyn's Market Hotel on April 11, 2008.
A bonus disc titled Weird Era Cont. was released alongside the album. Notably, "Saved By Old Times" includes a guest appearance by Cole Alexander of the Black Lips, which was recorded via an iChat session.
