Deerhunter

"Fading Frontier" is the seventh studio album by American indie rock band Deerhunter, released on October 16, 2015, through 4AD. The album was produced by Ben H. Allen, who had previously collaborated with the band on Halcyon Digest (2010), along with contributions from the band itself. It features the singles "Snakeskin," "Breaker," and "Living My Life." The album's creation followed a significant turning point for frontman Bradford Cox, who was seriously injured in a car crash in December 2014. Cox described the accident as a "perspective-giving jolt," stating that it "erased all illusions" for him. Fading Frontier marks Deerhunter's first release after this incident and also coincides with the departure of guitarist Frankie Broyles, who left the band to pursue his solo career. Notably, the track "Ad Astra" includes a sample from Bascom Lamar Lunsford's "I Wish I Was a Mole in the Ground." The album was teased with a countdown timer on Deerhunter's website, which concluded on August 16, 2015. The first single, "Snakeskin," was released on August 17, followed by "Breaker" on September 15, with its video directed by Cox himself. The album cover features a photograph titled "Zuma" by artist John Divola, encapsulating the album's reflective and atmospheric themes.
