Green Day

"21st Century Breakdown" is the eighth studio album by American punk rock band Green Day. Released in 2009, it is the band's second rock opera, following on from the success of "American Idiot". It's a concept album that is split into three acts: "Heroes and Cons", "Charlatans and Saints", and "Horseshoes and Handgrenades". The album narrates the story of a young couple, Christian and Gloria, as they navigate through the rigors, challenges, and experiences of the new century. It reflects the realities of a new era through its themes, tracing issues like the socio-political scene, personal struggles, and societal challenges. Critical reception of the album was largely positive, with many music critics commending Green Day's ambitious efforts. The album bagged the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album at the 52nd Grammy Awards. Some of the memorable tracks include 'Know Your Enemy', '21 Guns', and 'East Jesus Nowhere'. "21st Century Breakdown" was produced with veteran producer Butch Vig, marking the first time Green Day worked with an external producer since their major label debut. This album further solidified Green Day's position as one of the foremost modern punk rock bands while expanding their musical horizons.
