"MTV Unplugged No. 2.0" is a live album by American singer and songwriter Lauryn Hill. The performance was recorded on July 21, 2001 at MTV's studios in Times Square, New York City and released by Columbia Records on May 7, 2002. The album includes 13 songs and two spoken interludes. It's a complete departure from her debut album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill".
The album features Hill's vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar which she played herself in a folk style. The songs reflect focusing on introspection about love, heartache, spirituality, and social injustice. It showcases a raw, deeply emotional side of Hill as she delves into personal and sometimes painful themes.
Upon its release, the album received mixed reviews from critics, who praised Hill's performances but were divided on the musical direction. Commercially, the album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA just a month after its release. Despite the controversy surrounding it, the album has been praised over time for its raw honesty and artistic bravery.
