Joy Division

"Still" is a compilation album by English rock band Joy Division, released on October 9, 1981, by Factory Records. The album features a mix of previously released and unreleased studio material, alongside a live recording from the band's final concert at Birmingham University. The release of Still came in the wake of frontman Ian Curtis's tragic death, and it serves as a poignant testament to the band's legacy. The album includes unused tracks, as well as live performances, capturing the raw energy of Joy Division's music. Notably, it features the only live rendition of "Ceremony," a song that later became a single for New Order. This particular recording begins just before the first chorus, and while Curtis's vocals are often faint, the final chorus stands out as particularly clear. The album also includes a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray," recorded at the Moonlight Club in London in April 1980. Still was initially slated for an August release but ultimately launched in October 1981, reaching number 5 on the UK Albums Chart and peaking at number 3 in New Zealand in February 1982. The CD version, released in March 1990, was the first to omit the track "Twenty Four Hours." In September 2007, Still, along with Closer and Unknown Pleasures, was remastered and reissued, featuring a bonus disc of live recordings from the Town Hall in High Wycombe, recorded on February 20, 1980. This remastering served to further enhance the band's influential sound and legacy.
