The Stone Roses

"Second Coming" is the second studio album by the renowned British rock band, The Stone Roses, which was released on 5th December 1994. This highly-anticipated project followed their highly successful self-titled debut album, which set shots very high for this follow-up. The album was crafted within a rather tumultuous time for the band. Following the extraordinary success of their debut, tensions and a series of disagreements resulted in the band's absence from live performances and the public eye for many years. They finally returned to the studio in 1993 to create this body of work, the production of which was largely undertaken by the band themselves, alongside producer Simon Dawson. "Second Coming" is characterized by a heavier emphasis on electric guitar work, much of it by John Squire, and a significant blues touch, shifting away from their earlier indie and jangly pop-esque style. Notably, it features their classic song "Love Spreads", which reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and is an emblematic track for their new musical direction. While the album received mixed reviews from the critics upon its release, who were expecting a continuation of the debut's sound, it nonetheless debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart. Despite some criticisms, the album has since gained a level of retroactive acclaim and is considered a significant release in the timeline of the band.
