"The Tipping Point" is the seventh studio album by the English pop rock band Tears for Fears, released on February 25, 2022, through Concord Records. It marks the band's return to the studio after an almost 18-year hiatus since their previous album, "Everybody Loves a Happy Ending." The album's creation began in 2013 but was marred by delays and setbacks, including touring commitments, disagreements with their record label and management, and personal tragedy with the death of bandleader Roland Orzabal's wife, which influenced many of the album's songs. The majority of the album was completed between 2020 and 2021.
Upon its release, "The Tipping Point" was met with critical acclaim and commercial success. It became Tears for Fears' sixth UK Top-5 album, debuting at number 2 on the UK Album Chart and marking their highest chart peak in 30 years. Additionally, the album reached the Top 10 in various other countries, including the United States, Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Belgium, and The Netherlands. Notably, it became the band's third US top-ten album and their first to achieve this feat since their 1989 release, "The Seeds of Love."
Several tracks from the album, including "The Tipping Point," "No Small Thing," "Break the Man," "My Demons," "Long, Long, Long Time," and "Rivers of Mercy," were released as singles to promote the album, further contributing to its success and acclaim. Overall, "The Tipping Point" solidifies Tears for Fears' enduring legacy in the music industry while showcasing their ability to create impactful and resonant music even after a significant hiatus.
