"The Sound of The Smiths" is a compilation album by the iconic British band The Smiths, released on 10 November 2008. It was made available in both single and double-disc editions. The title of the album was coined by Morrissey, while Johnny Marr was involved in the mastering process. Initially, the album was planned to be released under the title Hang the DJ: The Very Best of the Smiths, but this was later changed to The Sound of The Smiths.
The compilation includes a selection of the band's greatest hits and is notable for being the only album to feature images of the band members on its cover artwork. The photographs used for both the original and deluxe editions were taken by Tom Sheehan.
