"The Essential Foo Fighters" is a greatest hits album released on October 28, 2022, by the American rock band Foo Fighters. This album is part of Sony Music's The Essential series and marks the first release by the band following the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins on March 25, 2022.
Upon its release, the album debuted at number eight on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart, making it the first in The Essential series to reach the top ten of that chart. It also debuted at number 42 on the Billboard 200. In a review from the German edition of Rolling Stone, Kristina Baum remarked that the compilation highlights the band's evolution over 13 years and speculated on the future of the Foo Fighters, suggesting that another Best Of could be released in 12 to 15 years. She rated the album four out of five stars.
Drew's Reviews expressed skepticism about the album's omissions, noting that tracks like "Congregation" from Sonic Highways were left out, as well as the song "Run" from Concrete and Gold, with only "The Sky Is a Neighborhood" represented from that album. In contrast, AllMusic offered a more favorable assessment, stating that since the band's last Greatest Hits album, they had released four additional Top 10 albums, resulting in a stronger compilation overall.
