"Three," also known as "U2 3," is the debut release by Irish rock band U2, launched on September 02, 1979, through CBS Ireland. The release features three tracks recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in August 1979, with A&R representative Chas de Whalley as the producer. The A-side includes "Out of Control," while the B-side features "Stories for Boys" and "Boy/Girl," the latter chosen through a listener poll on Dave Fanning's radio show.
"Three" was a commercial success, quickly selling out its limited edition of 1,000 copies on 12-inch vinyl, and the 7-inch version reached number 19 on the Irish Singles Chart. Both "Out of Control" and "Stories for Boys" were later re-recorded for U2's debut album, "Boy." In November 2019, "Three" was reissued for Record Store Day Black Friday to mark its 40th anniversary.
