Yazoo


"The Collection" is a compilation album released by British synthpop duo, Yazoo (known as Yaz in the United States). The album was released on August 25, 2008, by Mute Records. Comprising of two CDs and one DVD, "The Collection" is a comprehensive compilation of Yazoo's highly influential output. The first disc features selections from the group's two studio albums: "Upstairs at Eric's", released in 1982, and "You and Me Both", released the following year in 1983. The second CD includes B-sides, remixes, and live tracks, while the DVD features promo videos and TV performances, providing a complete overview of their original material. Yazoo consisted of synthesizer player Vince Clarke, who was formerly a member of Depeche Mode, and Alison Moyet, a soulful vocalist. Renowned for their synthesis of electronic and soul music, Yazoo were among the pioneers of the synthpop genre in the early 1980s. Despite a very brief lifespan of just 18 months, from early 1982 to mid-1983, the band had a substantial impact and influence on the genre, and their music continues to be appreciated and recognized till date.
