Porcupine Tree

"Metanoia" is an album by Porcupine Tree that was initially released in 1998 as a limited-edition vinyl record. The album was later reissued on CD in 2001, and then again in 2006 with bonus material. The title, "Metanoia," is a term from psychoanalysis which signifies a fundamental shift in personality, and this well encapsulates the experimental nature of the project. Unlike other Porcupine Tree albums, "Metanoia" is comprised largely of improvised instrumental jams, recorded during sessions for the band's "Signify" album between 1995 and 1996. It showcases Porcupine Tree’s musicianship in a spontaneous and raw form, giving fans a unique insight into the band's creative process, and has since garnered a cult status among fans. The track list includes parts of "Signify" that weren't included on the original release, reinforcing its status as a de facto companion piece. With the experimental, psychedelic, and progressive elements present in the eight tracks that make up "Metanoia," it's a fascinating time capsule reflecting a key stage in Porcupine Tree's development.
