Lipps Inc.

"Pucker Up" is the second studio album by the band Lipps Inc., released in 1980. Lipps Inc. is best known for its hit single "Funkytown," which appeared on their debut album "Mouth to Mouth." The band was formed by producer and songwriter Steven Greenberg in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and featured Cynthia Johnson as the lead vocalist. "Pucker Up" was the follow-up to their successful debut and continued in a similar musical style, combining elements of funk, disco, and pop. The album includes tracks such as "How Long," "Tight Pair" (also known as "Tight Pair of Jeans"), and "The Gossip Song," which reflect the energetic and danceable vibe that characterized Lipps Inc.'s music. While it did not achieve the same level of commercial success as "Mouth to Mouth," the album maintained the band’s presence in the music scene during the early 1980s. Lipps Inc.'s innovative use of electronic sounds and dance rhythms helped influence the transition from disco to other forms of dance music during that period. The production quality and catchy melodies exemplified the late disco era's declining yet still vibrant sound. Lipps Inc. disbanded after releasing a few more albums, but their legacy, particularly through tracks like "Funkytown," remains influential in the dance music genre.
