Mastodon

"Blood Mountain" is the third studio album by the American metal band Mastodon. The album was released on September 12, 2006 through Reprise Records. The studio album received universal acclaim from music critics, and it also marked a notable evolution in the band's sound, incorporating more clean vocals, progressive elements, and experimentation. The album cover art was done by artist Paul Romano, and the conceptual album revolves around a journey up a great mythical mountain, dealing with several themes and obstacles along the way, including native folklore, survival, and personal journeys. "Blood Mountain" entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 32, being their first album to chart in the US, and was also their major label debut after leaving Relapse Records. The album spawned the singles "Capillarian Crest", "Colony of Birchmen", "Sleeping Giant" and "Circle of Cysquatch". "Blood Mountain" was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007 for their song "Colony of Birchmen" in the Best Metal Performance category. This album notably features guest appearances from multiple musicians including Joshua Homme from Queens of the Stone Age, Cedric Bixler-Zavala from The Mars Volta, and Scott Kelly from Neurosis.
