Sleaford Mods

"Key Markets" is an album by the British post-punk and electronic duo Sleaford Mods. Released on 10th July 2015, it is their eighth studio album that generated quite a bit of buzz, hitting number 16 on the UK Albums Chart. Sleaford Mods, composed of Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn, continued their tradition of scathing social commentary with this album, which was titled in tribute to the supermarkets of Williamson's childhood. The album was critically acclaimed, with praise focusing on the sharp satire, raw energy, and ruthless dissection of everyday working-class struggle and societal malaise present in the lyrics. Sonically, it continued to showcase the duo's unique blend of punk angst, hip-hop rhythms, and aggressive electronic backdrops. Notable tracks include "No One's Bothered", "Face To faces", and "Bronx in a Six". Despite the organic minimalism of their music—a staple of their style—Sleaford Mods broadened their sound on "Key Markets", achieving a balance between their naturally abrasive tendencies and a more accessible, rhythmic melody structure. This album represents an important part of their discography and further affirmed their status in the UK's underground music scene.
