Sleaford Mods

"Divide and Exit" is the eighth studio album by English post-punk duo Sleaford Mods. Released on May 19, 2014, Andrew Fearn and Jason Williamson, the constants within the group, made the album to express their dissatisfaction and disenchantment with life in modern Britain. The album's provocative lyrical content mainly centers around social and political commentaries filled with criticisms of austerity-era Britain. The production is minimalistic, primarily using digitally processed beats and loops intentionally juxtaposed with raw, aggressive lyrics. Comprising of 14 tracks, although maintaining a low-fi aesthetic, the songs from "Divide and Exit" are pointed, intense, and filled with a surly, biting wit. The duo held onto their signature style with tracks like "Tied Up in Nottz" and "Jobseeker," which helped the album gain considerable attention both within and outside their native UK. "Divide and Exit" solidified Sleaford Mods' position within the larger music scene and has been critically lauded for its stark reflection of working-class realities, view of contemporary times, and gritty commentary, thereby becoming a turning point in their career.
