Toto

"Mindfields" is the 10th studio album by the American rock band Toto, released on November 16, 1999. This album is the first to feature the return of vocalist Bobby Kimball, who had been replaced by various singers since his departure after the 1982 Toto IV album. The album overall combines the band's traditional melodic sound with a more modern edge. It features high-quality musicianship from longstanding band members like Kimball, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Mike Porcaro, and Simon Phillips. The album's songs range from the introspective 'No Love' to the energetic 'Cruel.' "Mindfields" includes the song "Melanie," which Lukather wrote to commemorate his late mother. The track "Spanish Steps of Rome," is Toto's tribute to their late drummer Jeff Porcaro, featuring a drum solo performed on his actual drum kit, which was brought into the studio especially for this recording. "Mindfields" was mainly well-received, but its sales didn’t match those of some of Toto's earlier successes. Despite this, the release of the album marked an important milestone in Toto's history by reintroducing Kimball's distinctive vocals. This was a welcomed return for many longtime fans and set the path for the band's direction in their later albums.
