"Past to Present 1977–1990" is a compilation album by Toto, released in 1990. This album exists both as a single-disc and a double-disc version. The single-disc version only features the band's hits from 1978 to 1988.
The interesting aspect of this album is that it introduces four brand-new tracks that Toto recorded with their new lead singer, Jean-Michel Byron, who joined the band after their original lead singer, Joseph Williams, left in 1988. These new tracks are "Love Has the Power," "Animal," "Out of Love," and "Can You Hear What I'm Saying."
Notably, the album's title, "Past to Present," implies a chronological order from the band's past songs to their recent ones. However, the songs are not arranged in such order. The tracks comprise of their commercially successful hits as well as other significant recordings, providing an overview of the band’s musical journey.
The album has seen considerable success, going gold in the U.S., U.K., France, and Germany, and double platinum in Canada and Japan. Its numerous chart successes show Toto’s universal appeal and its ability to transcend across different musical tastes and preferences.
