"Back Against The Wall" is the 11th studio album by British blues rock band The Groundhogs. This LP was released in 1975 and produced by Tony McPhee, also the leader of the band and the main songwriter. The album contains eight songs, and it was a bit of a departure from their usual style. It features a more acoustic and mellow sound compared to the band's previous work, with songs like "Waiting Around" indicating the band's shift in musical direction. However, The Groundhogs' signature sound can still be heard in songs like "Body in Mind" and "Plea Sing Plea Song."
The Groundhogs, originally founded in the 1960s, were known for their blues-inspired rock sound. Early in their career, they toured as the backing band for John Lee Hooker. They later began to achieve more widespread success with albums like "Thank Christ for the Bomb" and "Split," but "Back Against The Wall" came at a time when the band was charting a new direction in their sound. Despite the shift, it still showcases the raw energy and skilled musicianship that defined their work.
