"This Is Happening" is the third studio album by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. It was released on May 17, 2010, by DFA and Virgin Records. It is noted for marking a departure from the band's previous sound, featuring more expansive, mid-tempo rock songs with a focus on tight song structure and gradual progression, as opposed to their customary electronic music stylings.
The recording of "This Is Happening" began in 2009 in Los Angeles at the Mansion, a property that record producer Rick Rubin was renting. It was also notable as the band had announced that this album would be their last, prior to their reunion and release of the album "American Dream" in 2017.
The album received wide acclaim from critics, who praised its fun and catchy music, with some referring it to as LCD Soundsystem's best work to date. It's lead single "Drunk Girls" was a particular standout and has been described as a humorous commentary on partying culture. Other significant tracks from the album include "Dance Yrself Clean" and "I Can Change". By the end of 2010, "This Is Happening" was on several publications’ year-end lists of the best albums.
The band promoted the album with the This Is Happening Tour, which spanned over a year and covered various regions worldwide. LCD Soundsystem also headlined numerous music festivals to support the album, lending to the album's reputation as a definitive work of the band's discography.
