"December's Children (And Everybody's)" is the fifth American studio album by The Rolling Stones, released in late 1965. Though it draws its title from their song "As Tears Go By," the track does not appear on the album.
The eclectic collection includes several of the band's biggest hits of 1965. The album also showcases a range of styles from rock 'n' roll ("Talkin' About You") to blues ("Look What You've Done") and ballads ("Blue Turns to Grey"). The album is reflective of the period when the Stones were still in the thrall of rhythm and blues and beginning to find their own songwriting voice.
Key tracks include "Get Off of My Cloud," "As Tears Go By," and "I'm Free." "Get Off of My Cloud" was a follow-up to "Satisfaction" and became a number one hit in the US and the UK. "As Tears Go By" was one of the first original compositions by Jagger and Richards and remains one of their most covered songs.
The album's popularity was also bolstered by the inclusion of "Route 66" and "I'm Moving On," live cuts from their appearances on the American television show "Shindig." "December's Children (And Everybody's)" reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart, indicating its significant commercial success.
Its name originates from the band's manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, who named it in reference to the band's fanbase at the time, who he described as being like "December's Children," driven by the early winter darkness to explore the more introspective aspects of their music.
