"Divine Intervention" is the sixth studio album by the American thrash metal band, Slayer. Released on September 27, 1994, it marked the first Slayer album to feature Paul Bostaph on drums after the departure of original drummer Dave Lombardo.
The album was produced by Toby Wright and Rick Rubin, who had previously worked with other notable bands like Alice In Chains and Beastie Boys respectively. The production was intentionally raw to capture the chaotic essence of Slayer's sound. The album's themes explore popular Slayer motifs such as death, murder, warfare, and the occult.
"Divine Intervention" debuted at number 8 on the Billboard 200, which was the band's highest debut back then. It sold over 93,000 copies within its first week, and it later became their first album to receive a Platinum certification from the RIAA. Notable tracks include "Serenity in Murder", "Circle of Beliefs", and "213".
Despite its commercial success, the album received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised its intensity and lyrical content, whereas others criticized its production quality and musical complexity. However, it is now considered a classic within the thrash metal genre, cementing Slayer's status as one of the genre's leading bands.
