Laura Nyro

"Angel in the Dark" is a 2001 album by American singer-songwriter Laura Nyro, released posthumously. The album consists of recordings Nyro made between 1994 and 1995, during a period when she was undergoing chemotherapy for the ovarian cancer that ultimately claimed her life in 1997. These tracks were her final recording sessions, and though they were incomplete at the time of her death, they were later compiled and released as a full album. The recordings were initially intended for release on a small independent label, but after Nyro’s passing, the rights to the album were handed over to Rounder Records, who took on the responsibility of promoting it and bringing it to a broader audience. Angel in the Dark marks a poignant conclusion to Nyro's musical career, showcasing her distinctive voice and songwriting abilities in the face of personal adversity. While the album was not fully finished when Nyro passed away, it stands as a final, deeply emotional work, providing a window into the artist's state of mind in her final years.
