"We Care a Lot" is the debut studio album by American rock band Faith No More, originally released in 1985 through Mordam Records. The album was initially credited to "Faith. No More." with the period included in the band's name on the vinyl release, album cover, and liner notes.
The album features the title track "We Care a Lot," which was re-recorded for the band's follow-up album Introduce Yourself and released as their first single. This later version of the song, however, was mistakenly listed as the original on some releases, such as the 1998 compilation "Who Cares a Lot? The Greatest Hits", where "Introduce Yourself was incorrectly referred to as their debut album.
One other song, "As the Worm Turns," was re-recorded with Mike Patton on vocals during the sessions for Angel Dust, though live recordings of songs from We Care a Lot featuring Patton's vocals have been released over time.
The album was recorded on a tight budget and with limited resources. Faith No More initially began recording the album without the backing of a record label, funding the recording of five songs themselves. This early demo caught the attention of Ruth Schwartz, who was in the process of establishing Mordam Records. With her support, the band was able to finish and release the album, which became the first official release for both the band and the label.
Despite the limited budget and quick recording timeline, bassist Billy Gould later reflected that the album's performances were strong, owing much to the band's preparedness and focus during rehearsals. The recording process, though rushed, contributed to the raw, energetic feel of the album.
