The Jacksons

"Triumph" is the fourteenth studio album by the Jacksons, released on September 26, 1980, by Epic Records. The album was a commercial success, certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the United States and peaking at No. 10 on the US Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart. In the UK, it entered the charts on October 11, where it eventually peaked at No. 13. Triumph sold three million copies worldwide in its original run, further cementing the Jacksons' status as a global pop phenomenon. The album produced several hit singles, including "Lovely One," "Heartbreak Hotel" (later renamed "This Place Hotel" to avoid confusion with the Elvis Presley song), and the iconic anthem "Can You Feel It." While the Jacksons shared lead vocals on several tracks, Michael Jackson, who had recently achieved massive solo success with Off the Wall (1979), took the majority of the lead vocals and songwriting duties on Triumph. This album marked the Jacksons' first No. 1 album on the US Billboard R&B Albums chart since Maybe Tomorrow in 1971. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1981. Triumph was a key release in the Jacksons' catalog and played a major role in their success during the early 1980s, paving the way for their next major project, Victory (1984). After Triumph, the group did not release another studio LP until Victory. The album was re-released on January 27, 2009, by Epic/Legacy with three bonus tracks of rare 7-inch and 12-inch mixes previously unavailable on CD. It was again re-released in digital format in 2021, alongside Victory and 2300 Jackson Street.
