Blind Melon

"Nico" is a compilation album by American rock band Blind Melon, released in 1996 by Capitol Records. The album was issued following the tragic death of lead singer Shannon Hoon, who passed away from a cocaine overdose in 1995. Named after Hoon's daughter, Nico Blue, the proceeds from the album sales were placed in a college trust for her. The album includes a mix of unreleased tracks, as well as recordings that Hoon had started but were completed by the remaining band members. It also features alternate versions of previously released songs, such as "No Rain" and "St. Andrew's Hall." In addition, the album includes cover songs like "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf and "John Sinclair" by John Lennon, paying tribute to Hoon's eclectic musical influences. Nico serves both as a posthumous collection of Hoon's work and a tribute to his legacy, as well as a means of supporting his daughter after his untimely passing.
