"Dad Loves His Work" is the tenth studio album by James Taylor, released in 1981. It features the duet "Her Town Too" with JD Souther, which reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The album was certified Platinum in the United States and marked Taylor's first release without any cover songs.
The album's title reflects Taylor's response to then-wife Carly Simon, who had urged him to reduce his touring schedule to spend more time with their children, Benjamin and Sally. After Simon issued an ultimatum in 1980, the couple separated shortly before the album's release and officially divorced in 1983. Taylor, who was grappling with a long history of drug abuse, later acknowledged that he struggled to balance his career and family responsibilities at that time.
