James Taylor

"JT" is the eighth studio album by American singer-songwriter James Taylor, released on June 22, 1977, through Columbia Records, marking his first album for the label. Recording took place at The Sound Factory in Los Angeles from March 15 to April 24, 1977, with Val Garay as the engineer and Peter Asher as the producer. The album reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, making it Taylor's highest-charting album since Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon. It was certified triple Platinum by the RIAA by January 31, 1997, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year at the 20th Annual Grammy Awards, losing to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. In The Village Voice's Pazz & Jop critics poll, JT finished at No. 23, marking Taylor's only appearance in the top 30 of the poll. The album produced three singles: "Handy Man," which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance; "Your Smiling Face," which reached No. 20; and "Honey Don't Leave L.A." JT also features other notable tracks, including "Secret O' Life" and "Terra Nova," with contributions from Taylor's then-wife, Carly Simon.
