James Taylor

"Covers" is James Taylor's eighteenth studio album and his first collection of cover songs, released in 2008. The album features tracks Taylor had performed in concert over the years, alongside newer additions to his repertoire. It was recorded over ten snowed-in days in a converted barn in Weston, Massachusetts, with his regular touring band, often referred to as "The Band of Legends." This collaborative environment allowed for a live, organic feel with minimal overdubbing. The album received generally positive reviews and earned two Grammy nominations: Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for his rendition of "Wichita Lineman." To promote the album, Taylor made numerous appearances on television, including a memorable performance on The Colbert Report, where he humorously showcased his musical philosophy. Covers showcases Taylor's ability to reinterpret classics, breathing new life into familiar songs, and it includes bonus tracks that were later released as part of a follow-up mini-album, Other Covers.
