The Motels

"Careful" is the second studio album by the American rock band, The Motels. Released on June 12, 1981, under Capitol Records, the album marked a shift from the band's debut album with a more New Wave-influenced sound. It saw the band inching towards mainstream recognition, with the single "Danger" reaching No.12 in France. The album was successful in Australia where it peaked at No. 46 in the album charts. It further solidified The Motels' reputation as a highly captivating new wave/pop rock ensemble who, while being in sync with current trends, had a distinct and appealing musical personality. Despite the album's success, it did create some tension within the band due to differing creative directions. The production of the album was done by John Carter who had previously produced acts like The Human League and Tina Turner. "Careful," despite not being the band's highest-charting album, certainly showcased their ability to bridge the gap between the punk/New Wave underground and the mainstream music scene, and professionals praised it for its well-crafted and catchy songs.
