"Profound Mysteries II" is the seventh studio album by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp, released on August 19, 2022. This album is the second installment in their Profound Mysteries series, accompanied by collections of short films directed by various filmmakers and animated visualizations by artist Jonathan Zawada, each created to enhance the listening experience of the tracks.
In an interview with NME, Svein Berge discussed the concept behind the album, noting their focus on what they term "the mystery." He humorously acknowledged the pompousness of the term, emphasizing that the addition of "profound" was meant to amplify that effect. Berge highlighted that this album particularly pays homage to the genres and artists that influenced them in their youth. He pointed out that listeners will notice significant references to iconic artists like Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode, as well as genres such as Italo Disco and '90s UK rave. While these influences have always been present in their music, he mentioned that they are more pronounced in this release, intended as a tribute rather than imitation.
