Primus

"The Desaturating Seven" is an album released by alt/rock band Primus in September 2017. It is the ninth studio album from the group and represents a fusion of their signature unique style with elements of progressive rock. The album draws its inspiration from a 1978 children's book called "The Rainbow Goblins," written by Italian author Ul de Rico. The book tells the story of seven goblins who attempt to drain the world of color. This plot provides the underlying theme for the album. Les Claypool, the lead vocalist and bassist of the band, who had read the book to his children, was motivated to develop this project based on the deep metaphors of the story. Each of the album's seven tracks reflects one of the goblins and a particular color. "The Desaturating Seven" is the first studio album of original material since "Green Naugahyde" in 2011 and the first to feature the classic lineup of Claypool, Larry LaLonde, and Tim Alexander since "Tales from the Punchbowl" released in 1995. The album was met with generally positive reviews from critics, praising its conceptual structure and blending of genres. The whimsical yet dark narrative and experimental instrumentation make this a unique addition to the band's discography.
