Primus

Frizzle Fry is the debut studio album by American rock band Primus, released on February 7, 1990. This album introduces fans to Primus' eccentric sense of musicality and lyrical humor with a fusion of various genres, including funk, progressive rock, experimental rock, and thrash metal. In the lineup for the album were Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde, and Tim Alexander. Primus's trademark sound is showcased heavily on Frizzle Fry, particularly Claypool's distinctive and creative bass playing. Tracks such as "John the Fisherman" and "Too Many Puppies" have since become live concert staples for the band. Interestingly, the album title "Frizzle Fry" comes from a lyric in the last track of the album, "Harold of the Rocks." The cover features Prawn Song Records' 'mascot,' which is made up of old tool parts. 'Prawn Song' is a pun on the name of the band's record label at the time, Caroline Records. The album was remastered on April 20, 2002, and also saw a limited release on vinyl in 2009. Not only does it hold a significant place in alternative music, but it remains an influential work and a standout within Primus' discography. Despite veering from mainstream tastes, Frizzle Fry was widely appreciated by fans and critics alike for its originality, maverick spirit, and musical prowess.
