"No Protection" is the second album by the American rock band Starship, released in 1987. Following their successful debut, "Knee Deep in the Hoopla," the band continued with a similar approach for this album. "No Protection" features a fusion of soft rock and synth-pop influences, balancing catchy melodies with slick, polished production. Fueled by a string of hit singles, the album made a significant impact on the charts. The most famous song to emerge was “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” a duet between lead vocalists Mickey Thomas and Grace Slick. Written by Albert Hammond and Diane Warren, the song went to number 1 in the US and the UK and was nominated for an Academy Award. Another noticeable track, "It's Not Over ('Til It's Over)" also achieved widespread recognition, peaking at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was produced by Narada Michael Walden, famed for his work with Whitney Houston, and co-produced by Peter Wolf. The combination of their pop smarts, the band's unwavering sense of conviction, and the stellar vocal team of Thomas and Slick, resulted in a pop-rock album that still resonates with fans today. "No Protection" rapidly went Gold and eventually achieved Platinum status, reflecting sales of over 1 million copies. Despite experiencing lineup changes in subsequent years, Starship's "No Protection" remains a prominent highlight in the band's discography.
