"We Are Chaos" is the eleventh studio album by American rock band Marilyn Manson, released on September 11, 2020, through Loma Vista Recordings and Concord Music. The album, produced by Marilyn Manson and Shooter Jennings, features the singles "We Are Chaos" and "Don't Chase the Dead." It was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, marking Marilyn Manson's first number one album in Portugal and their first number one record in Australia since 1998's Mechanical Animals.
We Are Chaos was recorded as a collaboration between Marilyn Manson and musician Shooter Jennings, who were introduced by Twiggy Ramirez, Marilyn Manson's former bassist, in 2013. This partnership began with an attempt to record a track for the finale of Sons of Anarchy, which remained unreleased due to dissatisfaction with the result. The track "Join the Human Gang," co-written by Jennings and the show's creator Kurt Sutter, was eventually reworked and released by The White Buffalo as "Come Join the Murder."
Manson and Jennings' collaboration also included a cover of David Bowie's "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" for Jennings's album Countach (For Giorgio).
In 2019, drummer Gil Sharone, who had worked on previous Manson albums, left the band, and Brandon Pertzborn, formerly of Black Flag, was brought in as his replacement. With Tyler Bates no longer involved, Jennings co-produced We Are Chaos alongside Manson, with contributions from Jennings's drummer Jamie Douglass, Pertzborn, and touring guitarist Paul Wiley.
Additionally, Manson and Jennings recorded a cover of The Doors' "The End" for the miniseries The Stand, but the track did not make it into the series due to budget constraints.
